Much like U6 Termites, the goal of U8 Mites is FUN! The focus for this age group is skating and individual skills training. The players are split into like-skilled practice groups and use small area games to encourage rapid development. Team concepts are again minimized to maximize individual skill training.
Typically kids will be moving into U8 Mites from U6 Termites or our Try Hockey For Free (THFF) or Introduction to Termites (ITT) programs.

U8 Mites are 7-8 year old kids who have some prior skating experience, though those kids new to skating are welcome to join! U8 Mites is a great time to get started. This age group may occasionally include confident U6 Termites.
U8 Mites will practice and have home games at the Oshkosh 20th Ave YMCA. Away games are typically within a 1 hour radius.
U8 Mites typically start mid October and end late February. U8 Mites practice 2x per week, with occasional weekend games.
Practice times are 5:45-6:45 pm, Tuesday and Friday.
Games are both home and away, our goal is to limit travel to no more than 45 minutes each way. There are typically 2 Jamborees/Tournaments per season.
A collection of important dates that are important for families. This is a living document, our aim is to keep it as current as possible.
U8 Mites are organized into small teams of like-skilled players. These teams are organized by the coaching staff. These teams will play games at home and away. The goal is for each team to play teams of a similar experience level.
The Association provides equipment for first year participants. Players are responsible for skates and a stick (approximately $70). Second year returning participants are asked to source their own equipment. Total equipment cost at this age should not exceed $200-$250. Used equipment is highly encouraged at this age.

U8 Mites is all about having fun and getting the kids moving with confidence. The Coaches will be evaluating the skaters and making recommendations on moving to Introduction to Termites, or possibly moving to U6 Termites.
